The Rich Coast

January 24th, 2007

So let me begin by shamelessly plugging my school.  I’m part of the Friends World program (friends as in Quakers) at Long Island University.  The program is one of few alternative education programs in the U.S. that is accredited for a bachelor’s degree.  There are centers in Costa Rica, China, Japan, India, and Brooklyn, NY; as well as a Comparative Religion and Culture that allows students to travel across the world during their year.  The first year is in Costa Rica.  I’m a transfer student and technically a sophomore, but since my background in in Spanish I figured I might as well become conversational in this language before starting a new one.

I was never really excited to come to Costa Rica.  I wanted a place with a little more political turmoil.  And Latin America just never really appealed to me.  Coming here and seeing the culture really challenged and inspired me personally, academically, artistically, and every other way.  So I’m back and ready to really delve into the culture and my work this semester.

Please feel free to contact me in any way, and if you’re ever been to Costa Rica I’m always up for suggestions.
